Guy Ritchie is one of my favourite directors. Other than the fact that the British director is known for marrying Madonna , He is well known for directing stylish movies oozing with quotable and memorable characters whose story eventual intertwine with an overarching plot like Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrells , Snatch and Rock’n’Rolla. He is mostly known for directing Robert Downey Jr.’s version of Sherlock Holmes and its follow up Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and his recent Spy thriller The Man from U.N.C.L.E. He is currently directing the upcoming King Arthur : Legend of the Sword. Asides from that it looks like the director is set to achieve more success.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the executives from the house of the mouse , Disney has selected Guy Ritchie to direct the live-action remake of its 1992 animated hit Aladdin; itself based on the story from the collection of Middle-Eastern folk-tales known as The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. The site also reported that the movie is going to retain many of its musical elements . That means we are definitely going to see live renditions of “ A whole new world , “ Never had a friend like me” which i will be stoked for. The biggest challenge for the director though is casting someone to play the famous Genie that the late and great Robin Williams brought to life. With that said, Aladdin is being written by John August (Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Frankenweenie ) and its another film in the long line of Disney animated features that are set to receive live-action remakes. We will report on further updates.
